This is my sister Mindy. She has been a great support to family and friends who have battled the horrific disease of cancer in what ever form it began in their lives. She has chronicled their struggles and victories by blogging about them and attaching, in some cases their blog sites to hers, mentioning them by initials only, in order to protect their privacy if that was their desire, always asking for prayer for those she loves so very dearly.
She has watched as her brother-in-law's wife has battled with cancer for years. Lending support when needed, celebrating the sometimes small victories in her journey, and now at what seems to be the end of her earthly journey, praying and waiting to once again be a strength and support to others as she too battles physically. Mindy was diagnosed with breast cancer in March of this year.
She battled with cysts for years and nothing ever came of it, but this time, the news came that in fact there was a malignancy. I received the call while at work and remember feeling my head begin to spin. I sat down and listened as she shared what she knew at that time. I went by her house that evening to try to lend strength and support by giving a hug and staying to visit for a bit.
We have watched as she has now gone through 5 of 6 Chemo treatments, lost her hair, taste, fights fainting spells, nausea, fatigue, to be followed by 6 weeks of radiation and the list goes on, and some how she finds the strength to carry on. She continues to entertain guests for dinner, attended church functions, take day trips, and continue to lend support to those who need an added touch of humanity.
As she has taken on the challenge of this journey "Amid Life" I have seen a spiritual strength display itself in her, very much like that of our Mom whom we lost 5 years ago now. Mom had the ability to rise above any circumstance and declare that God is God, and bring Him into any situation, room, or encounter she happened upon. So it is with my sister, the older we get, the more I see Mom in her, what she says, how she writes, and encourages others to hold onto the hand of God no matter what.
So here's to you Min! We love you, are here to support you as you continue on this journey, and lend our support to you as you have lent yours to so many around you. All I can say is, "What a gal!
